Measures: 200 x 60

Material technique with spatula, wax and oil structure on wooden panel

The painter expresses here the need to understand the earthly origin of his race. The composition unfolds around four key figures: the mother godness Voltumna, Aita - the divine ruler of the underworld, Turms (Hermes) - the first son of Voltumna and guardian on the island of Lemnos of the great Temple where the chosen ones were initiated to the mystery rituals; and finally the "Eternal Lover" depicted at the moment before kissing Voltumna.

Among the manifold elements present stands out the falling Mars - which also gives the title to the work - as an archaic reference to knowledge.
