Sculpture technique with chisel and gouge on beech wood and pebbles of the island of Kos
This work represents a fragment of the figurehead of the ship which the god Enki used to sail the waters at the mouth of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
Looking from the bottom up we can find the astronomical representation of our Solar system as the ancient Sumerians knew it.
On the back we can see an egg-shaped niche that recalls an altar; it is overhanged by a crescent moon and surrounded by vegetation and flowers.
The face of the god Enki - horned - is depicted centrally. It seems to have always been impressed in the wooden form. Significant is his right eye, formed by a knot and left by the artist as nature created it. That fateful knot represents the close bond between sky and earth, between spirit and material.
